About TryTyping

TryTyping is a small, independent website that hosts free typing speed tests and typing games that run entirely in your browser. There is no sign-up, no download and no paywall. Last content review: 2026-08-15.

• Typing speed test — 15 second to 2 minute runs reporting WPM, accuracy and consistency.
• Four typing games — Word Rain, Type Racer, Key Hunter and a kids' mode with big friendly letters.
• Untimed touch typing practice — home row through punctuation, plus drills built from the keys you personally miss most.

How the numbers are calculated

Words per minute uses the standard definition: every five typed characters (including spaces) counts as one word, divided by elapsed minutes. Net WPM subtracts uncorrected errors. Accuracy is correct keystrokes divided by total keystrokes. Consistency compares your speed across the run — a steady 55 WPM beats a spiky 55 WPM average, because steady typing is what survives longer documents.

Who it is for

Students building homework speed, office workers who want to stop hunting for keys, gamers chasing a leaderboard number, and children learning the keyboard for the first time. Every page works on Chromebooks and school computers because everything runs client-side.

How the site is funded and what we store

TryTyping is funded by advertising served through Google AdSense. Your typing progress (best WPM, accuracy, streak, level) is saved only in your own browser's local storage — we operate no user database and collect no personal information. Full detail is in the Privacy Policy and the Terms of Use.

Editorial approach

Reference pages such as the average typing speed chart and the guide to typing faster are written by the site's operator from published typing research and from the aggregate behaviour of the tests here. We do not republish other sites' articles, and we do not accept paid guest posts or link placements.
